People who have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome are both blessed and cursed. For the most parts, they are relieved by an explanation regarding the sudden plunge in their health. However, they are also cursed by the fact that there is nothing much they can do about it because the cure for CFS is yet to be discovered. Nonetheless, there are medications, therapies and self-care techniques that a person can undergo which can help substantially in relieving the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. Here are some suggestions.

Handle your sickness and do not let it handle you

Chronic disorders and illnesses often demand a lot from patients in order for them to control the symptoms. However, the best course of action is to always take the hand in controlling the disorder. If you have spent months or years suffering from this syndrome, it is likely that you have developed a sense of helpless and defeat against the disorder. But this must not be the case. Gain back control and know how to handle the disorder.

Look for simple but effective solutions

Not all CFS treatment may work for you. This is because while there is a general clinical definition of the disorder, there are various levels of severity whereby it occurs. So if you think your prescribed medications are not doing you much good, pass and try to look elsewhere for symptoms relief. There is a host of treatment and therapies you can use which oftentimes go beyond conventional medicine.

Try to look for those. Consult herbalists and alternative medicine therapists and seek treatments that will help your disorder. Ask your doctor about supplements instead of antibiotics and pain relievers. Go to a psychologist and ask whether there are therapies you can undergo to facilitate better coping with your illness. Donít be limited by pharmacological treatments, experiment on various options and pick some that provide you the most benefits.

Take lessons from each day

With chronic fatigue, you are lucky if you don’t feel sick for one day. So for the most parts, you can take note of your symptoms and your responses to treatments and therapies. It is important to keep a journal of your daily experience as this can help guide you on how to better manage your disorder.

Take charge of your healthcare

Take an active role in facilitating the delivery of healthcare services for yourself. If what your doctor gives you does not work, find someone else. Donít be afraid to get second or third opinion from doctors who are expert in immune system dysfunction. If you don’t respond well to conventional medicine, find other treatments.

Move your body

For most patients, the idea of doing some physical activities is not only impossible but unthinkable. Nonetheless, recent studies have shown that minor physical activities pick up one’s energy and health so try undergoing exercise programs. Try graded exercise therapy, for example. According to recent studies, this therapy improves the physical energy and capacity of an individual with chronic fatigue syndrome.

While it is of course hard for the first few months, first few years even, it is always worth the effort. Eventually, with a little activity done each day, the body will regain the strength and vigor that once were available prior to the onset of chronic fatigue.

Did you know that before the advent of electricity we humans used to sleep for around 10 hours each night, these days the average is less than 7 hours! It’s pretty safe to assume that most of us are surviving on less sleep than we need.

Being very adaptable we may not notice this but as sleep is essential to replenish our hormones and regenerate tissue etc. there can be underlying damage that we are not aware of.

Top up your sleep quota by planning a good sleep night at least two or three times a week.

Plan for lights out by 10pm latest and turn the TV off at least an hour before this (or don’t turn it on at all). Spend at least that hour unwinding and preparing for sleep. There are no hard and fast rules, experiment to see what suits you best. Try a combination of some of the following ideas but first of all ensure that your room is warm but well ventilated, and make sure that your mattress and pillows are supportive and comfortable and your bedding fresh.

1. Take a comfortably hot bath with aromatic oils (lavender is a popular choice) and/or dead sea salts.

2. Take an evening stroll or do some gentle stretching (Wake Up and Breathe! is ideal for this).

3. Enjoy some reading but avoid anything related to work, that makes you think or excites/scares you.

4. Listen to soothing music.

5. Have a warm milky drink or a cup of herbal tea (camomile and valerian are recommended).

6. Fill a small spray bottle with water and a few drops of lavender oil. Spray a little into the air above your pillow. Don’t spray directly onto the pillow unless you have a really fine spray mister or you’ll find your pillow is damp.

Once in bed with the lights out and your eyes closed, breathe slowly and evenly and starting from your toes clench and relax every muscle one by one all the way to the top of your head – i’m usually asleep before I reach my shoulders.

Experiment as we’re all unique and different things work for different people. Barry needs the room to be absolutely dark and quiet and the bed really warm (he has a heated blanket and the thickest duvet known to man) whereas I crave the crispest, smoothest, best quality 100% cotton bedding (any colour as long as it’s white!), the thinnest duvet known to man and loads of fresh air. As long as those needs are fulfilled i’ll fall asleep anywhere no matter what’s going on around me!

Sleep tight.

Tweet This Post

As a teen, it must be rather difficult to always be positive in every situation. Growing up in society today is challenging and teenagers are often compelled to be defensive. Teenagers are not usually compassionate individuals. They are constantly in competition and jealousy is a huge factor. The fight to always be number one is very common in the teenage world. It is unfortunate and sad since these years ought to be the best years of their lives. Teenage children are forced to grow up long before their time because of the daily challenges and obstacles they are faced with. Some young people can handle adversity very well while others are quick to build a defensive wall. When faced with confrontation, many teens lash out and become reckless, often to the point of violence and nowadays, death.

Developing an anger management plan for teens could be difficult since teens are quick to resist advice and not always compliant with instructions. In order for anger management for teens to be successful, a program must be designed that will reach the targeted teen without being overbearing. Convincing a teenager that they have behavioral issues which need attention may be a challenge but it is essential to make them understand the importance of making a change.

If anger is not controlled, it can control the life of the individual affected. This is unfortunate in any life including that of a teenager. Teenagers with anger issues tend to yell and scream, say hurtful things, punch walls, push other people around and even hurt themselves. It may be difficult but important to convince these teenagers that everyone can change. With effective anger management for teens, they can be a success. They can make positive changes in their lives which will ultimately make their life easier and more enjoyable. Learning to control their anger is definitely a positive change.

Anger management for teens should teach teenagers to be self-aware, to evaluate their feelings in an attempt to understand the reasons for their anger. They should also learn to practice self-control, to pause a few seconds and think about the repercussions of their reactions to situations. After thinking about their options regarding reactions, they are taught to make a choice, pick an option which will bring about effective results. After acting on their feelings, teenagers are taught through anger management for teens, to review their progress, see what the outcome of the choice was. These steps might be considered an effective lesson plan for anger management in teens. If using this plan each time they are confronted with irritating situations, eventually the teenager will be capable of dealing with confrontations much better.

Teenagers have their own minds with their likes and dislikes. Suggesting techniques like exercising, listening to music or journaling might be good anger management for teens. Success will only be achieved when the teenager is able to accept responsibility for their actions and realize they need to make changes. Using their likes as distractions may be a good tool in anger management. These may be techniques which they are willing to try when they feel angry or threatened. Helping a teenager be successful in anger management may require hours of hard work and tears, but realizing that individual is being spared from a future of recklessness and avoidable challenges is worth every second.

If you’re one of the millions of people who suffer from insomnia, there is good news. You don’t have to rely on potentially dangerous, expensive prescription drugs to get the rest you need. There are many easy ways to relieve insomnia, I’ll cover a few of the most effective in this article.

Insomnia can be caused by many things but stress and hormonal issues are two of the main causes in many people. IN some extreme cases you may only find relief with a prescription drug and you should consult your doctor. But in many, more mild cases you can find relief simply by making some simple lifestyle changes.

Here are some things you can start trying today, and hopefully sleep better tonight:

1. Relax. I know this is a hard thing to do when you’re thinking about everything you have to get done tomorrow and you can’t sleep tonight. You know the drill, you lay down to go to sleep, you can’t sleep, you get aggravated and mad, and…you can’t sleep.

It’s a vicious cycle, and it’s one that you have to break if you want a good night’s sleep. Don’t make your insomnia the focus of all your thoughts. Ignore it. Talk yourself into the fact that you’ll be able to fall asleep tonight instead of spending the whole day complaining about the fact that you have insomnia.

Don’t do any stressful things right before bed. Night time is not the time to balance your checkbook, pay bills, work on that stressful report, etc.

You should also avoid watching t.v. in bed. Many experts say that if you use your bed as an office you tend to take away the relaxing feeling of being in bed and can make the actual act of going to bed stressful.

2. Diet and exercise. This is important for a few reasons. For one thing your body will be more tired if you get enough physical activity which can make it easier to fall asleep. The other, and more important, reason is that if you eat properly and exercise you are keeping your body healthy.

A healthy body functions better in everything, even sleep. All your systems will be working properly. Our bodies are all about balance, if we want to keep our body in balance we need to make sure we not only get adequate rest but that we get adequate exercise.

3. Progressive relaxation techniques. This is when you relax your body, one area at a time working your way all the way up to your head. You start with your toes, than move up to your feet, ankles, legs, etc. It takes time and concentration but if you ‘force’ your body to relax it can actually help you get to sleep. The idea is that there is no way your mind can stay active when the rest of your body is in a state of complete relaxation.

Insomnia stinks. Whether it’s caused by stress, menopause, or any other factors it is very difficult on us when we don’t get enough sleep. Before you try anything too drastic, try these easy to use ways to relieve insomnia to get the relief you need tonight!

Our ancestors knew it as “hardening of the arteries.” Today, it’s called atherosclerosis, a direct result of high levels of LDL cholesterol, sometimes called “bad cholesterol.” By any name, it’s a risk factor for l heart disease and stroke. The reason for this: LDL cholesterol causes irritation of the linings of one’s blood vessels.

There’s no doubt that what we commonly call high cholesterol—a higher than acceptable overall level of a combination of LDL and HDL cholesterol (“good cholesterol”) or an imbalance between the two tilted toward LDL if untreated does lead to heart disease. Lipoprotein A, related to LDL cholesterol adheres to damaged blood vessels and forms plaques in the vessels. Fried and processed foods tend to contain oxidized cholesterol, which is a very common cause for increased deposits of plaques on blood vessel walls.

Men older than 45 and women older than 55 tend to get atherosclerosis more than younger people. A family history of heart disease is a presupposing factor as is diabetes. Smoking is a serious risk factor, and so are diabetes and high blood pressure.

Some natural remedies are known to be effective in the treatment of high cholesterol. For example:

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

This one seems to lower the bad stuff and increase the good. It also seems to bring down levels of lipoprotein A, another risk factor for atherosclerosis. You can get a prescription form or you will find it under the heading dietary supplements. It does have some side effects, most objectionable of which is skin flushing or hot flashes. Taking it with meals helps.

Artichoke Leaf

There has been some research that indicates that this natural remedy may help. It has been shown, for example, to limit the synthesis of cholesterol and to increase bile production in the liver. Cholesterol excretion is increased by this speedier flow of bile from the gallbladder.

Soluble Fiber

Soluble fiber also seems to limit the absorption of cholesterol in the intestines. Some sources:

Ÿ Psyllium powder

Ÿ Oats, barley, and rye

Ÿ Legumes

Ÿ Some fruits

Ÿ Some vegetables (carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, and yams, for example)

Plant Sterols and Stanols

Some plants contain these substances. They may also be found in dietary supplements or added to margarine and orange juice. Because the structure of these substances is similar to cholesterol, they seem to block its absorption. Besides reducing total cholesterol, they seem to work hand-in-hand with other remedies.

Red Yeast Rice

This Chinese remedy is produced by fermenting red yeast over rice. Used in many Chinese dishes, it also contains lovastatin, believed to inhibit an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol. Red yeast products are becoming available; however, because they contain a substance found in prescription drugs, there is some controversy over whether its sale should be restricted. Before you decide to use this as a cure for high cholesterol, you should make certain that it does, in fact, contain lovastatin. This ingredient, by the way, is used in prescription drugs such as Mevacor. Because of certain by-products of the fermentation process, pregnant or nursing women and children are warned not to ingest red yeast rice.

Getting your closet organized in a manner that is going to continually serve you takes time. The success of your endeavor is going to depend on the system you devise to keep your closet organized. Most of us have never stopped to consider all the open space in our closet. The key to being successful isto find a way to turn that space into something you can work with.

They best way to organize your closet isn’t the best way that someone else chooses to do theirs. Remember that everyone has a different organization style as well as different sizes of closets. Your closet organization system should be customized to what you have to store in your closet. There are some wonderful closet organization kits and systems out there, but only purchase one if the set up is right for you. Donít rearrange your set up to match what is available unless you are sure you will be satisfied with the results.

It is to your advantage to design your own customized closet organization system. This can be done in many ways. You can purchase individual closet organization products to come up with your own design. This can be tricky though when you are trying to get everything to fit properly. If you choose this option, try to select closet organization products that are all made from the same manufacturer. You should always measure your closet space and the products twice to get the best fit.

A healthy colon is very beneficial to live a healthy life. Most of us experience colon problems because we lack fiber and natural cleansers in our diet. The recommended daily allowance for fiber intake for an average person is 30 grams. A diet with no fiber is like brushing your teeth without a toothbrush.

You cannot simply clean all plaque and food bits. Without the essential natural fiber, a healthy colon is almost impossible. Harmful buildup of fecal matter can occur that can result in health problems such as indigestion, constipation, bloating and even fatal colon cancer.

Colon cleansing and internal body detoxification is very essential in maintaining a healthy large intestine. Since the colon’s main function is to extract water and salt from fecal matter, it will be very important for the body to ensure it has a healthy one.

The restoration and maintenance of your overall health is generally dependent on the state of your digestion. Thus, colon cleansing is very essential when you want to have a healthy digestion and better lifestyle.

In its simplest sense, colon cleansing improves the digestive system’s ability to break down food particles, absorb nutrients, water and salt and smoothly eliminate fecal waste.

The end result of a successful colon cleansing is more energy and vigor.

Colon cleansing improves your digestion. The process of digesting food particles combines a mechanical and chemical process of transforming food into the molecular level to be absorbed by the body. During colon cleansing, the supplements stimulate and tone the natural body secretions and functions of the stomach, pancreas, liver, intestines and also the colon so that digestion will be smooth.

Whenever there is good digestion, absorption of nutrients will also be smooth. Absorption of nutrients occur when food molecules are transformed into small pieces to pass through the intestinal linings to the blood and lymph nodes. Cleaning the digestive system of toxins and other impurities will provide a clean pathway for easy absorption.

When digestion and absorption is accomplished, the remaining undigested food particles and by-products of digestion will be eliminated by the body through bowel movements. Without a regular bowel movement, a person can experience uncomfortable instances such as constipation.

Elimination of fecal waste is very important to avoid autointoxication or poisoning. Colon cleansing not only takes out all the fecal waste, but it also maintains the regularity of bowel movements.

Colon cleansing also strengthens our body’s defenses against certain diseases. The inner intestinal lining is ten times the surface of our skin. Thus, our body concentrates a certain amount of immunity to defend harmful invasion from foreign bodies.

However, if your digestive system is not functioning properly, your body will be exposed to these invaders until they penetrate the blood stream and the lymph nodes. This invasion can drain the body’s energy and can also lead to allergies and immunity disorders. Colon cleansing helps restore defenses of the digestive system especially the intestinal lining.

Without a daily bowel movement, your undigested particles can poison your body. This can result in an excessive amount of toxins which can be absorbed by the body affecting your mental and emotional health. Colon cleansing does not only help in regular elimination but it can also reduce these toxins by removing old wastes that were accumulated in the body.

Other benefits of colon cleansing are:

1. Reduction of cravings and food dependency

2. Reduce body odor and bad breath

3. Reduce gas and flatulence

4. Reduce whitening of the tongue

5. Increase of good looks

6. Clearer complexion

Our feet and legs are wondrous appendages. They take us where we want to go; without them, our lives are very limited. But tired feet and tired legs can also be our worst enemies. They can ache like a sore tooth, only worse. They will not let you relax and go to sleep. They take over! It’s impossible to think of much else when tired feet and tired legs are screaming at you. Heavy legs make the days go much longer.

Massaging the Legs

The good news is that you can relieve tired legs by taking the time to massage them frequently. It can also go a long way toward relieving the pain in your legs. These are techniques you can use yourself. However, you may also ask a friend to do these steps.

If you truly want to pamper your legs, use a little bit of essential oil or you favorite cream on your hands so they will move over your legs more easily.

Starting at the shin and massaging lightly with the index finger and thumb, apply only a little pressure.

Move upward, increasing pressure as you go. When you have reached the top, make a circle with your hands around the top of the leg and move downward to the toes. Make your motions fluid. You should push as you move both directions. Repeat three times.

Knead the thigh muscles then move downward with the kneading movements. After you have kneaded the inner thigh, move to the outer thigh. Move to the back of the leg and start with the ankle, using the index and middle finger.

Knead the calf and work up to the buttocks, increasing the pressure as you reach the larger thigh muscles.

Make a circle with your hands and push down the leg and to the toes.

Once you have covered one leg with these movements, repeat all the steps on the other leg.

Perform all these steps three times on each leg.

Cover your legs and relax your body.

Massaging the Feet

Before you begin to massage your own feet, it’s a good idea to relieve your tired feet by soaking them in warm water for ten minutes or so. You may want to pamper your feet by putting a few drops of essential oil or bath salts in the water. Dry them thoroughly before you begin the massage.

Use cream or oil on your hands and stroke the top of one foot first, moving toward the ankle.

Next move to the sole of the foot, making your massage strokes gentle at first and then increasing pressure.

Using gentle circular motions, move your thumb and fingers over the bottom of your feet. You might want to increase the pressure on the heel or ball of your feet. Move from top to bottom and include the sides of the feet.

Gently rotate the foot with one hand while you hold it with the other. Begin at the ankle and then move to the ball.

Knead the sole with your fingers.

Roll your toes between thumb and forefinger, sliding fingers to the ends of the toes.

Go over the sole one more time with circular motions.

How often you massage your legs and feet will depend on how much wear and tear they receive in a day’s time, but you can do this as often as every day. It is enlivening and revitalizing and will make your life better!
