Try these simple bath treats that are kind to you and to the environment.

A SOOTHING BATH

Mix two handfuls of powdered milk with one handful of cornflour.

Add approx 10-12 drops of your favourite essential oil. Lavender is good to relax; Patchouli, ylang ylang or Sandalwood for ‘romance’. Try grapefruit oil to wake yourself up.

Throw a small handful in the bath under running water.

Relax in your bath and breathe deeply.

This will keep for about a week in a sealed glass jar.

A MOISTURISING BATH

Mix equal amounts of honey and powdered milk.

I like to use a strong scented honey to make this a treat for my senses as well.

Dissolve a few spoonfuls under running water. Relax and feel your skin softening.

Honey is a good antiseptic so this bath is also cleansing.

Try adding some coconut oil if you have really dry skin.

I always make this fresh, it doesn’t store well.

ENERGISING BATH

To a small bottle of pure oil (almond is great for this) add:

5 drops of Eucalyptus oil

10 drops of Rosemary oil

10 drops of Peppermint oil

Drizzle under the running water until the scents explode around you.

All essential oils are trial and error so start with little and increase to suit.

This bath is especially good when you have a cold and feel stuffy.

This should last for weeks but like most things it’s better fresh so don’t be tempted to make up great big bottles.

ONE FOR THE BOYS

2 handfuls of Epsom salts (or sea salt)

2 tbsp Baking Soda (not baking powder)

2/3 drops of cedarwood oil

5 drops of rosewood

5 drops of chamomile (optional)

Mix the salts and soda then drop on the oils and mix very well.

Chuck a small handful under running water, relax and enjoy.

Store in glass jar with tight fitting lid.

TROPICAL TREAT

Mix thoroughly:

1/2 cup apricot oil (or almond)

1/2tbsp each of mango, gardenia, coconut essential oils

Smells amazing and stores well in a sealed jar.

SALT SCRUB

I like to do this before a moisturising bath.

Just grab a small handful and rub it into your skin in small circles, paying particular attention to any dry patches.

Mixing the salt with a little honey or oil makes it easier.

Whatever way you do this there is always a certain amount of mess. Last thing I want to do after a relaxing soak is to start cleaning up, so I stand in the bath, scrub and then run my bath.

HAIR TREATMENT

While you’re soaking the tub try my natural conditioning treatments for your hair.

Banana Smoothie

Mix 3-4 tbsp of Yoghurt

Juice of ½ a lemon

1 mashed banana

sufficient Coconut oil to make a gloopy paste

Mix well and slather all over your head.

Avocado Mess

Squish together ½ an avocado with about 4tbsp mayo (use the best you can get or just use some oil) and spread on your hair, rubbing into the roots.

Both these conditioners should be left on for up to 30mins. It will be faster (and less messy) if you pop on an old shower cap or wrap your head in food film.

PS. A great trick when you don’t have time to wash your hair is to sprinkle a little cornflour in your hair, leave for a few minutes and then brush through. Adding a couple of drops of essential oil will leave your head smelling sweet too.
